MOSES SUMNEY BYSTANDERS (IN SPACE)

Moses Sumney has just dropped a new live performance of 'Bystanders (in space)', along with a self-directed video, both of which are from the upcoming film, Blackalachia, and album, Live From Blackalachia; capturing a one-take performance recorded in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. 'Bystanders' is a song from Sumney's album græ, but new version, 'Bystanders (in space)', takes an entirely different emotional and sonic form. The song sees ascending synth notes climb their way to the summit, alongside Sumney's smooth falsetto, where he sings each word with full pronunciation. The video captures the performance in a single shot; the camera pans around Sumney whilst he sings into a microphone, and the sequins on his outfit glimmer like the starry sky that surrounds him. “Over the course of two days, we filmed 14 songs, totally live, the trees as our audience, the grasshoppers our background singers,” Sumney said in a statement. “Live From Blackalachia is a wild imagining of what can happen when we seek not just to reclaim nature, but to reintegrate with it.” We have very high hopes for both the film and the album, which are out on the 10th of December. -Ellie Rose-Davies
